This provides some links to local suppliers in my part of Somerset. I will only add people and places that I have used and who offer a good quality product or service. I am happy to get suggestions of who to try next!
Sharpham Park Farm Shop
The Sharpham Park Farm Shop located off the central courtyard at Kilver Court, stocks the very best seasonal and organic produce from the local area. Here is the link: Kilver Court Gardens and the Sharpham Park Shop. The butcher at this farm shop is exceptional and this is reflected in the quality of the meat. There is very little shrinkage during cooking, which means that the meat isn’t full of water. The shop also stocks a good range of spelt products.
Farrington’s Farm Shop & Cafe
Farrington’s offers a wide choice of fresh and organic fruit and vegetables, including stuff grown on their farm. They label their produce with the food miles. They have a farm kitchen producing a range of high quality foods that will save you time and and a butchers providing traditionally-reared fresh meat and poultry from Jon Thorner. Link: Farringtons » The Shop.
The shop has a mad looking cow which appears to be galloping out of one of the farm buildings, and the fun cow print carrier bags. The café has lovely cakes, perfect for afternoon tea.
Somerset Local Food Direct
Somerset Local Food Direct is a community business run by local producers, so as well as buying fresh and delicious food, you’ll also be helping the local economy. Link: Somerset Local Food Direct.
This is like a farmer’s market delivered to your door. It is an internet based business, linking local farms and producers with the public. Food is delivered once a week in polystyrene boxes with ice packs. They also provide detailed descriptions of the producers which I like.
